As part of the IAQ criteria, a LEED credit can be obtained for developing a construction IAQ management plan. It specifically references the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors National Association (SMANCA) Guidelines for Occupied Buildings Under Construction.

Construction IAQ Management Plan:

EQ Credit 3.1: During Construction & EQ Credit 3.2: Before Occupancy

Earn a total of 2 credits.  The intent of these credits is to implement an Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Management plan during construction and the pre-occupancy phases of the building that reduces indoor air quality problems and reduces health issues with construction workers and building occupants.

The IAQ plan should contain, at a minimum, the following:

  • Definition of critical performance parameters
  • Analysis of ventilation requirements to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations
  • Analysis of heating requirements
  • Analysis of moisture management and condensation precautions
  • Heater selection, sizing, and placement during construction phases
  • Fuel and power requirements
  • Protection protocol for permanent HVAC equipment and ductwork
  • Monitoring protocol and reporting forms
  • Documentation
